Passers-by inspired to join teacher in stack sculpture Since school let out, special education teacher Teddy Betts has spent many hours standing in the Patapsco River, creating sculptures from stacks of driftwood and stones. Residents and visitors from nearby Ellicott City have been gathering to see Betts' handiwork and join him in building more pieces of river art.

Passers-by inspired to join teacher in stack sculpture For Teddy Betts, stacking rocks is a sort of meditation. He has spent the past few weeks creating stone sculptures along a stretch of the Patapsco River near the Main Street bridge in Ellicott City. "The river inspires me," says Betts. "It's my higher power. Doing the stones is connecting in a spiritual way."
